Born on October 19, 1955, French interpreter, composer, arranger and improviser Roland Dyens began guitar studies at the age of nine. Four years later he became a student of Spanish Master guitarist Alberto Ponce and, in 1976, was awarded the Licence de Concert de l’École Normale de Musique de Paris.
While learning his instrument, Roland Dyens also studied composition with the renowned teacher, composer and conductor Désiré Dondeyne under whose guidance he was awarded the First Prize in Harmony, Counterpoint and Analysis.

Among the most distinguished awards obtained during the early years of his career, Roland Dyens received the Special Prize at the International Competition Città di Alessandria (Italy) and the Grand Prix du Disque de l’Académie Charles-Cros, both in honor of the major Brasilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos. At the age of 25 he became a laureate of the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation. Eight years after this, he was recognized as one of the “Best Living Guitarists” in all styles by the French magazine Guitarist. On the 30th of September 2006, he was awarded the “Chitarra d’Oro 2006” for his body of compositions by the Presidency of the Città di Alessandria International Competition. The following year, in 2007, he was honoured by the Guitar Foundation of America (GFA), which chose him to compose the set piece for its prestigious annual competition, held in Los Angeles. More than 50 guitarists presented «Anyway» and its central improvisation. (It’s noteworthy that two students of Roland Dyens, Jérémy Jouve and Thomas Viloteau, won the highly coveted first prize at the GFA competition in 2003 and 2006 respectively.) In October 2007, during his autumn tour of North America, Roland Dyens’ October 6th recital in Winnipeg earned five stars from the Winnipeg Free Press. It was only the second time that the daily paper, established in 1872, had awarded such high praise. On the 27th of July 2008, his works are again recognized in Italy with the Premio per la Composizione at the 2nd International Festival of Città di Fiuggi, near Rome. A few months later, he was privileged to be asked to compose the music and conduct the ensemble which will be performing in order to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the prestigious Guitar Ensemble Association of Japan. “Soleils levants” was finally premiered on November 9th 2008 in Nakano Zero Main Hall of Tokyo.

On the 21st of January 2010, Roland Dyens is honored with the privilege of being the only classical guitarist invited to participate to an homage to the great Django Reinhardt, in a concert that will be given at the legendary Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.
In July, 2011, his recital at the International Córdoba Guitar Festival received the highest accolade of the coveted "Five Stars" from the Spanish Press, titling its review "Roland Dyens, El Mago de la guitarra" (the Wizzard of guitar).

Il se partage aux quatre coins du monde entre les concerts, la composition et l’enseignement. Cette triple alliance est le socle même de l’indiscutable succès de ce musicien en constante évolution.
Si les récitals de Roland Dyens sont toujours des événements, ils sont de véritables chocs pour les uns ou - comme disent les américains - de “very inspiring experiences” pour d’autres. Certains, plus étrangers à l’instrument, parlent même de profonde “réconciliation” avec la guitare classique…
L’approche hyper-sensible et colorée qu’a Roland Dyens de celle-ci, son incontestable ouverture d’esprit associant toutes les musiques en un seul et même programme, sa façon d’être sur scène, son improvisation d’entrée ou son rapport unique à l’auditoire font de lui l’un des porte-drapeaux de la guitare d’aujourd’hui, le plaisir en plus.

Sa musique, chevillée depuis déjà longtemps au répertoire de l’instrument, fait de lui un membre du club restreint des guitaristes actuels qui peuvent jouir d’un tel privilège. Ses compositions et ses arrangements, joués aujourd’hui dans le monde entier, font l’unanimité et apportent un souffle nouveau sur cette guitare dont il repousse sans cesse les limites.

Le 30 septembre 2006, il reçoit la "Chitarra d’Oro" pour l’ensemble de son oeuvre par la Présidence du Concours International "Città di Alessandria".

L’année suivante, il lui revient l’honneur d’être le compositeur de la pièce imposée au très prestigieux Concours International GFA (Guitar Foundation of America) qui, en 2007, se déroule à Los Angeles. Notons qu’à ce jour, cet événement guitaristique mondial aura consacré trois élèves de Roland Dyens au Conservatoire de Paris en l’espace de 6 ans.
C’est cette même année, au cours de sa tournée d’automne en Amérique du Nord, que la presse canadienne le consacre en lui attribuant 5 étoiles pour son récital de Winnipeg du 6 octobre. C’est la deuxième fois qu’un fait similaire se produit dans les annales musicales du Quotidien Winnipeg Free Press depuis sa création en 1872.
Le 27 juillet 2008, l’Italie consacre de nouveau son oeuvre avec le «Premio per la Composizione» lors du 2e Festival International de Guitare "Città di Fiuggi"(Rome). Quelques mois plus tard, il lui revient l’honneur d’être

È costantemente in viaggio attraverso i cinque continenti per i concerti, la composizione e l’insegnamento. Questa triplice veste è l’autentica base dell’indiscutibile successo di tale artista, in costante evoluzione.
Se i recitals di Roland Dyens sono sempre un avvenimento, possono anche essere un vero choc per alcuni o – come dicono gli americani – delle « very inspiring experiences » per altri. Altri ancora, più estranei allo strumento, parlano pure di una profonda « riconciliazione » con la chitarra classica… L’approccio iper-sensibile e colorato di Roland Dyens con quest’ultima, la sua incontestabile apertura di spirito nell’associare tutte le musiche in un solo unico programma, il suo modo di essere sulla scena, la sua improvvisazione iniziale, il suo rapporto autentico con il pubblico, lo rendono uno dei massimi esponenti della chitarra di oggi.

La sua musica, profondamente intrinseca da sempre con il repertorio dello strumento, fa di lui una perla rara nel sottile gruppo di quei chitarristi che oggi possono godere di un tale privilegio. Le sue composizioni e i suoi arrangiamenti, suonati in tutto il mondo, e accolti da un pubblico unanime, portano un soffio vitale a questa chitarra i cui limiti vengono instancabilmente infranti dall’ecletticità dell’ artista.

Se infine, le master-class di Roland Dyens raccolgono un pubblico sempre più numeroso, si deve sia alle sue idee ricche ed innovatrici, che alla sincera apertura dell’uomo verso i chitarristi della nuova generazione. Roland Dyens, intérprete, compositor, arreglista e improvisador, francés, nació el 19 de octubre de 1955. Con sólo nueve años inició sus estudios de guitarra, y cuatro años más tarde se convirtió en alumno del Maestro español Alberto Ponce, obteniendo en 1976, la “Licencia de Concierto”, titulación otorgada por la “Escuela Normal” de Música de Paris.
Compaginó sus estudios instrumentales con los teóricos, de la mano del celebre compositor y director de orquesta Desiré Dondeyne, logrando el Primer Premio de Armonía, de Contrapunto y Análisis del Conservatorio Superior de Paris.

Entre los muchos premios que obtiene desde los inicios de su carrera, cabe destacar el Premio Especial del Concurso Internacional “Città de Alessandria” (Italia), así como el prestigioso Gran Premio del Disco de la Academia “Charles-Cros”, en ambos casos logrados en acontecimientos de homenaje a Villa-Lobos.
Ha sido laureado por la fundación Menuhin y a los 33 años, fue clasificado por la famosa revista “Guitarist”, como uno de los 100 mejores guitarristas del mundo, incluyendo todos los estilos.

El 30 de septiembre del 2006, le fue entregada, por la Presidencia del Concurso Internacional “Città di Alessandria”, la “Chitarra d´Oro”, en reconocimiento al conjunto de su obra.

En este mismo año, durante su gira de otoño por Norte América, la Winnipeg Free Press (Canadá) le otorgó cinco estrellas por su excepcional recital del día 6 de Octubre en la ciudad de Winnipeg. Esta gran distinción ha sido concedida solo dos veces desde la fundación de este periódico en 1872.

El 27 de julio del 2008, Italia reconoció de nuevo la valía de su obra otorgándole el “Premio per la Composizione” en el 2º Festival Internacional de Guitarra “Città di Fiuggi”(Roma).

Am 30. September 2006 erhielt er vom Präsidium des internationalen Wettbewerbs "Città di Allessandria" den Kompositionspreis "Chitarra d’Oro" für sein Gesamtwerk.

Im folgenden Jahr wird eines seiner Werke in dem berühmten internationalen Gitarrenwettbewerb der GFA (Guitar Foundation of America), der in dem Jahr in Los Angeles stattfindet, als Pflichtstück programmiert. In diesem weltweit bekannten Wettbewerb wurden in den letzten sechs Jahren drei Pariser Konservatoriums-Schüler von Roland Dyens ausgezeichnet.

2007, anläßlich einer Herbst-Tournee in Nordamerika, wurde Roland Dyens’ Konzert in Winnipeg vom 6. Oktober von der kanadischen Presse mit 5 Sternen ausgezeichnet. Seit der Gründung der Tageszeitung "Winnipeg Free Press" im Jahre 1872 wurde diese Anerkennung nur ein einziges Mal verliehen.

Am 27. Juli 2008 wurde ihm in Italien bei dem 2. internationalen Festival "Città di Fiuggi" der "Premio per la Composizione" für sein Gesamtwerk verliehen.

Wenige Monate später erhielt er den Auftrag, ein Kammermusikwerk für den 20. Geburtstag der berühmten japanischen Gesellschaft für Gitarren-Kammermusik zu schreiben. "Soleils levants" wurde am 9. November 2008 in der Nakano Main Hall in Tokio unter der Leitung des Komponisten uraufgeführt.

Am 21. Januar 2010 findet in Paris, im legendären Théâtre du Châtelet, eine Hommage an den großen Django Reinhardt statt, welcher vor 100 Jahren geboren wurde.
